Hello,

My name is Stephen Pass and I am a writer and school workshop provider who lives in Harrogate. I have written two children’s books – ‘Madge the Mermaid’ and the sequel ‘Madge the Mermaid and the Attack of the Twins’ – which is now also published!

A former journalist, I now visit schools with a workshop based on ‘Madge the Mermaid’, which has proved very popular. I have delivered my workshop to more than 400 schools, speaking to thousands of pupils. I mainly speak to Years 3 and 4, but have spoken to all year groups in the past, from Reception to Year 6.

With the pandemic, I am presently offering free online sessions of my workshop to schools via Zoom. Please see the ‘Online Workshop’ page on this website for more details.

My workshop is aimed at inspiring writing and creativity and can have a beneficial impact on the writing of pupils, especially boys. There are plenty of fun elements, such as my poems and singing Madge and Alan’s songs, including the 'rap' version and 'seahorse dance', so hopefully it proves to be fun and educational for all!
